The orientation and design of the building reflects the importance of environmental sustainability, particularly in view of the location.

Much has been made of the south facing glazed entrance reception area which provides a welcoming 2-storey atrium. Materials are appropriate to the location of the existing site with features, including large trees, have been incorporated into the layout.

This environmentally friendly centre has been nationally recognised as an exemplar project, winning a SHINE award for sustainable healthcare buildings.

This project has become a sustainability exemplar in the NHS Health Building Notes - Facilities for Primary and community care services. (as featured in HBN 11-01)
